Grandmaster Chan-Yong Kim
was awarded the Korean National Sports Merit Medal by the President
of the Republic of Korea. This prestigious award if the highest
honor which can be given to a sports figure by the Korean Government.
Grandmaster Kim accepted this award at the Seoul
Hilton Hotel in Seoul, Korea on May 28, 2003 in an awards ceremony
celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the World Taekwondo Federation.
Grandmaster Kim was recognized for
his many contributions to the Korean National sport of Taekwondo.
His Taekwondo career as a "Taekwondo missionary" began
as early as 1957 as he instructed the American military troops stationed
in Korea and then he was assigned abroad to Australia where he established
the first Yudo/Taekwondo association. His efforts to spread the
Korean national sport took him to other East Asian countries before
he then immigrated to United States in 1971. He became an international
referee in 1977 and in 1982; he founded the California State
Taekwondo Association (CSTA) and served as its President
for eight years.
Class Schedule
OMS offers classes for beginner, intermediate, and advanced level
junior and senior (adult) students Monday-Friday each week. Classes
comprise of physical fitness, self-defense techniques, sparring
skills, and forms. Special classes are also offered on weekends
that focus specifically on aspects such as competition preparation
and sparring.
